Review of Reviewer: Kurt Wiegel's Game Geeks

Kurt Wiegel gives youtube a fresh face for Pen and Paper role playing games, and an introduction to such games. The internet doesn't seem to have many people who have reviewed a handful of rpgs, and with over 100 episodes, Kurt has done his share. What he offers is variety, allowing players to see games beyond the big two (Dungeons and Dragons, Cthulu).

Reviews start with a core rulebook or set of rule books, followed by a subject to subject overview, all along injecting personal experiences of a seasoned GM.

He talks a lot about who each game is made for and why, how one game might have some weird mechanics, be roleplay-heavy or combat-heavy. He provides information for people actively or passively looking for a new game or game ideas. I would suggest him to anyone looking to learn new GM tricks, searching for a new game, or looking to find interesting setting for their existing games.

Inscendiary Solution's BAREBONES Review of JesuOtaku Anime Review

JesuOtaku is has alot of cool points. Following the path of G4's Blair Butler, she presents her reviews with enough humor to keep viewers interested.

She films in alot of different locations, which you may be able to tell are local to her native land (midwest?). Just a guess here. This is plesent, and long time reviewers like Kurt Wiegel could learn a thing or two from this Stylization.

Her rating system is out of four, with two of the more popular series gaining a 1 1/2 whatever out of whatever. I think this shows some credibility because cool and popular factors should not be the judge of quality.

A problem i find while watching her reviews is that much of the humor is actually in subtitles, like watching Stephen Colbert's "the word" segments. The problem is that if you're not putting your full attention into the review, you're only getting half the story.

Is this a problem? no. She's a bright and intelligent young woman who happens to have magical eagle vision that can pierce through some of the creative excriment and find the true gems, all while explaining in fully focused detail what these artists had for dinner.

She's good, with good vision and solid opinions.

Building Friendships

OK! So we have news on communication with IG. My letter got though his spam filter some how AND we have a response. I'm very happy with how things turned out, and in addition to posting the letter that He sent Me, I've included my response.
lol. how do you know if I'm an x-men fan or not? Are you basing this on the 2 minute movie analysis I did? Yes, I do know who emma frost is and I have been really caught up in the current x-men storylines lately that have evolved out of all the damaged caused by the scarlett witch a few years back. If your a big x-fan too, then you'll understand what I'm speaking about. Sorry you don't agree with my review, but I had a good experience watching the movie. There have been countless rehashing of x-men origination stories through different mediums (comics, ultimate universe comics, cartoons) and this was the first I've seen that was decently done. Sorry you don't agree

I will agree that I am not too familiar with the origins of deadpool but I know of his existence and was a fan of the brief team up with cable done a couple years back. Hopefully we'll be on the same page in future reviews!
Chris

Very Nice.

Irate Gamer;

Taking a minute to address a disgruntled youTubian is something I can respect. I apreciate the time you've taken to talk to me.

My analysis was based on the 2 minute review you did. I do believe this influences your review. Having the experience of the newer comics gives you new insight, and I believe these experiences are valuable viewer information.

What I found upsetting was the story of Logan was an amazing and beautiful origins story. I thought his growth, development and retirement was wonderful on film. Where I became disapointed is when they introduced old characters out of the blue, for seemingly no reason. I mean, Gambit was a Fan Service, The Blob was extranius. The story would have faired better without both of them, and i believe they detracted from the plot of the film.

I think I was more upset with deadpool than any other part of the film. A cursory knowledge of deadpool reveals exactly what he was in the beginning of the film, a snarky assassin that can't shut his mouth. You may be able to see where I was disapointed at the point that they sew his mouth shut.

As a recomendation, I would like to put forth Hulk Vs. Wolverine. This may show you, not a perfect, but a decent Wolverine Origins story, as well as a solid intro to deadpool.

Once again, thank you for your time,

Review of Irate Gamer's Review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I have some problems with the way IRATE Gamer puts this particular movie review, but also most of his recent reviews. First reactions reveal that his videos are entirely scripted; by someone else.

Having seen the movie a few times and being a small time fan of the 90's cartoon and the certified reader of the occasional comic book, I feel well qualified to offer my opinion in the matter of entertainment related materials.

IG Starts off "Now I've seen a lot of movies come out lately where the beginning of the movie is good, but the ending totally sucks and ruined the film." The next sentence should follow, "This is exactly the kind of film that X-Men Origins: Wolverine is." IG cascades off into a completely different direction. "Thankfully not this movie" He continues as I shout exclamatories at my monitor, "because the entire ending battle and sequences of this film is what has you really leave the theater wanting more."

Now, Hold On. I can't really continue on this way. Is IG really watching the same film? Those appear to be clips from the X-Men Origins: Wolverine I remember, but he doesn't actually seem to be reviewing the same film. The characters were thrown in kind of willy-nilly. I don't understand the significance of The Blob and the teleporting black guy to the overall story? Could you not have told the same story without them? They brought nothing to the table, and It was sloppy storytelling.

Wade, Deadpool, whatever you want to call him. This Actor was Jipped. His opening scene was fantastic and he was true to the character that was set in front of him. Deadpool, the Merc with the mouth. For some reason, this was played down and the character loses his mouth in the next scene he's in. Very disappointing and it seems this decision was made to prevent Deadpool from outshining Wolverine.

The thought on Wolverine being outshined... Even though Deadpool only had a single speaking part early on in the film, Hugh Jackman was outgunned by Deadpool actor, Ryan Reynolds. In the few moments that he was on screen, his dialog portrayed exactly, to a T, the kind of character Deadpool had been in the comics. This was ripped away when his next appearance had his mouth literally sewn shut in a wordless, utterly un-epic battle with brothers Sabertooth and Wolverine.

IG Continues, "Its so great to see characters from the comicbooks that you've grown so attached to, appear in this movie."

The video suggests that he's referencing Gambit, who was another character who I thought had his script cut. After a thought, I found NO reason for his presence in the overall story.

Right Now, I have enough confidence to make an evaluation of the Film. Overall I found the story to be an incomplete hodgepodge of several different concepts and ideas, none of which are fully formed or fleshed out. The romance between Hugh Jackman and Lynn Collins was believable and real, and honestly, this story sold me at the beginning. What followed was a bunch of one line cracks by Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth and a left field plot twist, broken up by battles and cameos which didn't always feel right.

Now for our Solution. What follows is really what Makes I.S. Different from most other things in the blogosphere. Its our (My) goal to make the world a better place (Piss people off) and as such I will submit, (AHA!!) a letter identifying the problems and potential solutions. My only hope is that these intentions will be rewarded. (May no good deed go unpunished.)

Dear IRATE Gamer,

I submit to you that you have never read a Deadpool comic. You did not know, previous to this film, who Emma Frost was, nor do you have more than a cursory knowledge of the X-Men series. If you did, I do believe that the review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine would contain a higher presence of Nerd Rage on which your youTube career is supposedly built.

I request that your future reviews contain more research and fewer off-the-cuff script props (for example, "This movie was all that and a bag of potato chips.") When I visit your page, I expect to find a review and commentary on film in question. Your tag suggests that you are IRATE or Angry, unless of course this is to suggest that you rate things, which I believe not to be the case, although I have been proven wrong before. Your name also suggests that you are a GAMER, which on further review of your videos has seemed to be less and less the case.

Please, return to the adage of truth in reporting. Lies of this nature are often offensive. I humbly suggest that you submit a video retraction of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine review as well as the DragonBall Evolution review for poor judgment.

Thank you For Your Time

IG said, "I don't think I could have asked for a better movie". I guess I hold the industry to a higher, perhaps unrealistic standard when dealing with my childhood memories.

Old problem, New Solution, and going on break

I've always been confused about where I fit in the world's great big plan. I've been struggling with the concept that I don't fit in and that I'd have to make room for myself for a long time.

A day ago, in the hall, I stopped to talk to a financial aid person, who turned out to be the school's career counselor. She proposed that I take a test to place me in a field, which really means putting the school's resources to use.

Thats good news. Finally I'll have some sort of direction.

Other than the career warpath, I've been working on the business plan, and I'm not going to lie, I havn't been doing very well. Organizing Ideas has never been my strong point. I just need to over think in particular directions.

Anyways, What does this have to do with IS? Well untill I'm done with this project, and probably with school, I won't be updating much or at all.

Trust me tho, I have some brilliant new Ideas for this summer, and soon I may be posting the Cyberjocks Plan, which I am very excited about.

There we are...

Oh! one more thing, Before I put IS on the shelf, I'm going to do a simple quick review from either Dollhouse or Wolverine or some kind of media. It'll be based on something John from EGT told me today at Sushi.

ENFP

So we took a personality test this morning. I am ENFP, Very cool!
Keirsey descriptions - Wikipedia's ENFP Article
Champions delight in novelty. They are optimistic, enthusiastic, and vivacious, craving expressions of strong emotion. With a dramatic flair, they share their experiences with others, hoping to reveal some universal truth or win others over in support of a cause. Attuned to possibilities, Champions scan their environment, probing the emotions, needs, and motivations of others. This sensitivity sometimes conflicts with their intense drive for personal authenticity. Spontaneous and personable, they attract others to their company.

I need to do all the research and work for finding out where I belong. This includes looking around at the career offices and maybe even treking to the local library or taking up temp work.

I'm looking into Aaron's Suggestion of using "Printable CEO" in order to track i$ and everything else on whats worth doing with the project.

Cleric

The movie starts shooting tomarrow at 7am, which 'll be cool, but i am upset. I was somehow expecting to make UB con as well, but Its looking like i may not even get to dr. Drew's by 7pm for the group.

I'll be working as Katie's personal gofur. She's the art/makeup/costume director. I'll also be working along side Aaron and a guy named Markus, doing sound. On Saturday morning I have a big deal going on putting boards down on one of the shooting sites, aperently we'll be the difference between life and a 40 foot drop, so I'll have to get my coffee and ninja shoes ready for that.

The business plan for Cyberjocks needs to start as soon as this movie is over. Theres only a little bit of time remaining before the end of the semester and it has to be excelent.

The List
So with the list I figure I'll change around the font color. I'll fill things in with a different color as i get them done. Most things are worth 2-4 bucks, but the more parts there are to them, the more i$ i'll assign.

One i$ will be worth one dollar or 10 minutes. The Incendiary Solution will spend i$ on new supplies, extra time for the project and invest for new ideas. Ultimately, The more I get accomplished in the other aspects of my life, the more time and energy and cash I allot for the project.

Cool, Huh?

Productivity.
